CMP Digital Targets are professional color targets designed for digital camera calibration, camera profiling and white balance adjustment. The CMP Digital Target range includes the mini², designed for DCP/DNG workflows, and the Ultimate, which supports both DCP/DNG and ICC camera profiling.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
What is the difference between camera calibration and camera profiling?
Camera calibration and camera profiling are related but distinct processes. Calibration establishes a controlled and repeatable camera setup, while profiling characterizes the camera's color response and creates a profile for use in a color-managed workflow. A CMP Digital Target can be used for both calibration-related adjustments and camera profiling.
Which ICC and DCP profile creation software is compatible with Digital Targets?
CMP Digital Target Mini²: You can use Lumariver Profile Designer with this target. When purchasing a target, I provide one free DCP/DNG calibration for one camera, compatible with Adobe Lightroom, Camera Raw and DxO PhotoLab.
CMP Digital Target Ultimate: You can use Lumariver Profile Designer, basICColor INPUT 6 or ArgyllCMS with this target to create ICC or DCP/DNG profiles. When purchasing a target, I provide one free DCP/DNG calibration for one camera, compatible with Adobe Lightroom, Camera Raw and DxO PhotoLab. To create ICC profiles yourself, you can use profiling software compatible with the measurement data supplied with the Digital Target Ultimate.
Which CMP Digital Target is suitable for Capture One?
The CMP Digital Target Ultimate is the appropriate CMP Digital Target for workflows requiring ICC camera profiling with Capture One. The mini² is intended for DCP/DNG workflows and does not provide the same ICC profiling capability.
What is a CMP Digital Target?
A CMP Digital Target is a physical color reference target used to calibrate and profile a digital camera. It provides known color references that can be measured and compared with the colors recorded by the camera.
What is the difference between the CMP Digital Target mini² and Ultimate?
The CMP Digital Target mini² is designed for DCP/DNG camera profiling, while the CMP Digital Target Ultimate supports both DCP/DNG and ICC camera profiling. The mini² uses measurement data defined for each production batch, while each Ultimate target is individually numbered and supplied with individual measurement data.
Can I create a DNG camera profile with a CMP Digital Target?
Yes. Both the CMP Digital Target mini² and Ultimate can be used as part of a DCP/DNG camera profiling workflow.
Can I create an ICC camera profile with the CMP Digital Target Ultimate?
Yes. The CMP Digital Target Ultimate is designed for both DCP/DNG and ICC camera profiling workflows.
Which software is compatible with the CMP Digital Target mini²?
The CMP Digital Target mini² is intended for DCP/DNG workflows with Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw and DxO PhotoLab.
Which software is compatible with the CMP Digital Target Ultimate?
The CMP Digital Target Ultimate can be used with Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw, Capture One, DxO PhotoLab and other software supporting the relevant camera profiling and ICC workflows.
Can a CMP Digital Target be used to set white balance?
Yes. The CMP Digital Target Mini² can be used as a reference for white balance: it features a series of dedicated color patches on its left-hand section.
Can a Digital Target be used to adjust autofocus?
Yes. The CMP Digital Target can also be used as a reference for fine autofocus adjustment, allowing the photographer to check focus accuracy on a precisely defined target.
Why does the CMP Digital Target Ultimate have an individual number?
Each CMP Digital Target Ultimate is individually numbered so that it can be associated with its own measurement data. This provides an individual reference for camera profiling and color measurement.
What are LAB measurement files used for?
LAB measurement data provides numerical reference values for the colors present on the target. These values can be used during the camera profiling process to compare the camera's recorded colors with known reference colors.
What is spectral measurement data?
Spectral measurement data describes the measured spectral characteristics of the target’s color patches. It provides additional colorimetric information across more than 30 wavelengths for applications and profiling workflows that use spectral data.
Which CMP Digital Target is suitable for my workflow?
The CMP Digital Target mini² is suitable for workflows based on DCP/DNG camera profiles. The CMP Digital Target Ultimate is suitable for workflows requiring both DCP/DNG and ICC camera profiling, including workflows using Capture One or other ICC-compatible software.
